The Triangle Troglodytes of the National Speleological Society held their monthly meeting at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The meeting began some time after 7:30.
Taylor T led the meeting in Explore on Four, attended in person by Julie, Emily, Ken, Matthew B, Blake F, Jacob G, Matthew W, Chris T, Zeke, Stephan, & Peter. Joining via the internet were Mark D, Lisa, Mike Y, John B, Robert, Monroe, Alex B, & Alan
For starters, everyone was asked what their favorite cave water feature is. Caves mentioned included Whispering Well, Sheepskull Cave (in CA), Craig’s Crack, Gilley Cave, Bone-Norman, Worleys, Clover Hollow, & Rehoboth Church.
The webmasters reminded us to post trip reports, if for no other reason, to earn a raffle ticket for the year-end prize. The treasurer reminded us to pay our annual dues, and that cash is preferred.
The annual grotto trip is on the weekend of Saturday, September 19. We will be at the RASS Field Station in Millboro. We’re looking at the caves in the Water Sinks Preserve, and also Wishing Well, Crossroads, and Breathing, though the latter could be closed for the season.
We can use grotto funds to make shirts or stickers to sell or give away. Anyone who wants to do something should talk to the Executive Committee.
Rehoboth Church Cave is still closed, and we just have to allow local folks to handle communications, and see what happens down the road.
Stephan told us about Movie Night at the Museum of Natural Sciences on May 12, where they showed “The Goonies”, and he answered questions of attendees. Ken and Mike Y talked about a photo trip to Paxtons on May 30. John B and Matthew B told us about MDC Cave and Shoveleater on the June 13 weekend. Jacob also talked about Clover Hollow and New River on May 21.
The NSS Convention in Indiana is on July 6, and a few TriTrogs will be there. There is a trip to Maxwelton Sink and Scott Hollow with folks from Boston on July 11. OTR is Sept. 4-7, and the TriTrogs Annual Trip is Sept. 18-20.
Matthew B gave a knot-tying clinic for the evening’s program, and it was so engaging, there’s no telling exactly when the meeting ended.
